The Big Dress will be a world record breaking petition made of squares from various SPEAK groups, Churches, youth groups and anybody else(!) from around the country. Each square contains a personal response about global trade and the inequality it has brought to the world. To create the worlds biggest dress 10000 squares are needed.
The BIG DRESS is a creative petition expressing the need for multinational companies to be accountable for trade actions and their treatment of workers. SPEAK wants to see a change to trade rules, which put the poor before the profits of multinational companies.
Making a BIG DRESS square
Cut a piece of material into a 30cm x 30cm square (We can supply you with some if you want, contact Martin: martinparkes@btconnect.com)
Write, sew or paint your concerns or feelings about injustice in the garment industry or trade in general onto the squares. (Please use fabric paints or pens if possible)
Try to be as bold, colourful and imaginative as possible.
Tell as many people as you can, and get them to make one too!
Send the squares to Martin Parkes, Christian Aid Office, College Park Drive, Henbury Road, Bristol BS6 6QU, or get in touch and he'll come and collect them from you.
