Lent

Lent is the six-week period leading up to Easter. Traditionally, it is a time of preparation for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday — the day after Pancake Day — and continuing through to Easter Sunday, Lent is often marked by prayer, fasting, reflection, and the practice of giving something up or taking something on, as we seek to grow closer to God.

It can sometimes be hard to know where to start, especially if you’re new to observing Lent or are looking for something fresh. To help you dig deeper, we’ve gathered a range of resources that you might like to use on your own or with others.

If you have a favourite resource to recommend, or if you’d like to connect with others as you journey through Lent, we would love to hear from you. Let’s support and encourage one another as we walk this season together.

The Desert Fathers and Mothers were early Christian pioneers, seeking God in the solitude of the Egyptian wilderness. Resources from Lectio 365 here.

Living Water: a weekly email of Bible reflections, stories and prayers, helping you draw closer to God this Easter. Resources from TearFund here.

Join thousands of others who are taking part in a 40-day Lent generosity challenge.  Resources from 40 Acts here.

Creative prayer activities, individual devotionals, and teaching series to help you go deeper in prayer during Lent and Easter. Resources from 24/7 Prayer here.

The Rest Is Worship explores how we can rest to the glory of God, and how our times of worship can be places where we are restored and renewed by him. Resources from Engage Worship here.

One of our citywide partners, North Bristol and South Glos Foodbank are introducing their 'Ad-Lent' Calendar! Each day for the 40 days of Lent, they'll reveal on their social media one of our most needed items for donation, or you can find the full calendar here.
