![]() By Simon Faulkner I have been involved in schools work for 5 years. It started off as a favour for someone and turned into a passion of mine. I am currently involved as a volunteer in 4 different schools, teaching, doing classroom support, taking assemblies, helping on trips and camps, running after schools clubs and being a governor. You may be asking, ‘What could I do to help?’ The answer is, what ever you feel capable of doing. Some of my most rewarding times in school have been helping as a classroom support. This meant sitting alongside pupils, helping and encouraging them with their work and also talking to the teacher afterwards and encouraging them. Teaching can sometimes be a thankless task! Most schools (secondary and primary) are always looking out for volunteers to help, whether it is listening to readers, helping in class, helping at a fête, being part of the PTA or friends of the school association. You could shadow someone for a while to see if you would like to do something on a more permanent basis. You could commit yourself to whatever time you can spare. In this way we can show schools that Christians are real people who care about the world we live in. It would also be a great witness to Upper Horfield School, if more Ebe people got involved.
