One of the Core values of the Winning Ways Strategy is to see our friends and family reached for Jesus, is PRAYER — “We are committed to the effective partnership of prayer and evangelism, believing that salvation is a sovereign act of God initiated.”
Here are Ten Top Tips for Powerful Prayer -
1. Be specific - Vague prayers get vague answers, specific prayers receive specific answers
2. Be consistent - Bible says pray and do not give up. We need to be a people committed to pursuing God’s face. Don't forget the Luke parables of the Nagging Neighbour and the Whining Widow.
3. Pray in faith - Matt 21:22 “And whatever you ask for in prayer, you will receive if you have faith." God rewards faith. Pray for what you have faith for - not for what you don't. When you receive answers your faith will grow.
4. Pray with passion - Passionate prayer moves the heart of God. James says that “effectual fervent prayer avails much”.
5. Pray with your mind, pray with your spirit - When you pray you need to use your mind. Think things through, pray strategically about the things that stop your friends coming to faith. On other occasions, though, it's important to leave the thinking to one side and simply allow the Holy Spirit to pray through your spirit. We need to do both.
6. Pray long, pray short - Cultivate relationship with Jesus through extended prayer times – we need to “remain in Him”. You can also pray short “arrow” prayers, inspirationally and moment by moment
7. Be physical - Use tangible objects to focus prayer – use photos, lists, WWJD bands etc For instance, why not pray over an invitation before giving it to a friend. Use that object to symbolically hold that person up to Jesus.
8. Pray on the move - The Bible records many different positions of prayer. Let's not be passive but pray with all our strength. Pray as you walk, pray as you drive, pray outdoors and in.
9. Pray scripture - When we pray Scripture we have confidence that we're praying in the will of God. It's powerful to be able to speak out God's promises, and we have that assurance that He will do what He has said. Use some of the Bible verses from the Prayer Calendar to help you in this.
10. Pray in agreement - There is power in praying together – Jesus said in Matt 18 That “where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there in the midst of them.”
