by Hannah Birtill In August 2002 I started work as the Co-ordinator of the Bristol International Student Centre (BISC). In January 2003 a Commissioning service was held at Ebe to commission me into this role, which many of you attended (thank you!). This was a special occasion for me and God has continued to confirm to me over the last few months that I am in the place that he wants me. Some of the highlights have been seeing students come to Christ through the Alpha course that we ran. Also, there have been many opportunities to share my faith with the students and learn about different cultures and the diversity in our world. In September a new year team will start at BISC – we have a team of four BISCits this year (praise God!). Also in September many international students arrive from overseas to Bristol for the new term. We run a ‘Welcome’ programme to meet and greet new students, we provide lifts from the train/ bus stations, serve welcome meals and generally help them settle in. Me and my team can’t do this alone -we need your help!!! The ‘Welcome’ runs from Monday 15th September for three weeks. During this time we need people like you to help with OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATION, help with DRIVING and help with cooking EVENING MEALS at our centre. There are many churches around the city who get involved, so we need lots of people to help a little, rather than a few people helping a lot! Maybe your home group would be willing to come to BISC on your homegroup evening and help cook and serve meals, maybe you have a spare room and could put up a student for a night or two, maybe you have a car and could be free for a morning or an afternoon to ferry students about? The body is made up of many parts and it’s great when it works together, because where there is unity God commands his blessing.
