Year Team
Who? - The Year Team is for anyone over the age of 18 who would like to give a year to work in a local church context.
What? - The Year Team gives people the opportunity to be trained in and to serve in various areas of church life.
When? - The Year Team is a ten month project that starts in September and runs until the following July.
Where? - The Year Team is run by Ebenezer Church, in Bristol, where team members are based.
Aims? The aim of the Year Team is to provide a context for people to grow in character and discipleship, through developing skills and equipping them for practical service and in knowledge and understanding of the Christian faith.
How does it work?
Ebe’s Year Team focuses on three main areas - Church, Community and City. The vision is to give each year team member an opportunity to experience working in many different areas of church, and to develop in giftings and ministries, as God leads them.
Members of the Year Team have their time filled with a range of activities, such as student work, youth and children’s work, social action (eg. with homeless people, Noise teams, etc.), Alpha, schools work, senior citizen work, general church administration, work amongst the emerging generation (20’s), etc. You would probably not be involved in all of these but a combination of areas.
Team members can choose activities to fill some of their time and there are a number of things which everyone in the team will do, as a way of building team life and developing a servant attitude.
Training and Support
Once a week, the Year Team meet up with the Year Team Co-ordinator who is their line-manager and is responsible for their well-being. During the year, there will be three development reviews to see how things are going. Each member of the Year Team will also be encouraged to have a mentor with whom they meet with at least once a month who is responsible for discipleship and pastoral issues.
Also, every Tuesday the team meets up with other Year Teams in the city, at the George Müller Foundation, for worship, teaching and support. They will receive teaching on subjects as diverse as Heaven, Third World Issues, Child Protection, Prophecy, as well as studying most of the books in the Bible in some depth.
